10 Tips for Great Photos From a Plane

Whenever I fly, I try to get the window seat. I just love seeing the world go by, reduced to the size of a map far, far below me. And if I have a camera with me, then things are even better, because I love to take photos of the amazing sights I see. Here’s a few tips that I’ve picked up that might help out, followed by a number of photos that I’ve taken after the jump.

Photo Prints For Sale at My Society6 Store!

For a while now, I’ve wondered how to go about selling my photos. While we have a great Canon Pro 9000 printer at home, maintaining an Etsy store, making flawless prints and having to mail them out was too much hard work.

This is where Society6 comes in. You post your photos and set your price, and they produce the prints and mail them out. Perfect! So, if you’re looking for a nice photo or art print for your home or office, head on over and take a look. My Society6 store is here.

Bagel Time!

Really nice tiled typography, although it looks like there’s a misplaced tile on the “S” in “Noah’s”. Whoops!

Here’s a new photo that I’m extremely happy with. The St. Johns Bridge is a beautiful gothic-styled bridge from the 1930s on Portland’s northern edge, and is something of a photography magnet. I’ve been drawn to it myself with some mixed results in the past, but this shot certainly hit the mark. I used my new 6xND filter to lengthen the exposure time up to 30 seconds, even though the sky was still quite bright: the sun had set, but that beautiful summer dusk was lingering on. The combination of that glorious purple gradient in the sky with the light streams left by vehicles on the bridge add up to a very satisfying shot.

Railing

A favourite shot from a very special morning of photograpy. The beautiful early morning sun seen here only lasted half an hour before it disappeared behind thick, grey cloud. But while it was around, the lighting was absolutely glorious!
